Here’s what the next few months may look like for you:

  1. August-September

Nomination process begins. All nominations are completed via the nomination portal found online at www.jeffersonscholars.org.

  2. December

Deadline for all nominees is 12/1. Upon receipt, the Jefferson Scholars Foundation processes each nomination and posts a letter of congratulations to the nomination portal for each nominee, recognizing their achievement. Subsequently, local selection committees review nominations, carefully reading letters of recommendation and school profiles in order to consider nominees within the context of their schools and communities. From their recommendations, regional semifinalists are chosen.

  3. January-February

Regular application deadline for U.Va. Office of Admission is 1/1. Regional selection committees conduct formal interviews and select one or two finalists from each region. The Jefferson Scholars Foundation notifies all nominees of their status in late February via the nomination portal.

  4. March

Four-day Jefferson Scholar Selection Weekend is held in Charlottesville, Virginia, for roughly 120 finalists (all associated costs covered by the Foundation). At the conclusion of the weekend, the Jefferson Scholars Foundation notifies finalists of their status via the nomination portal.

  5. April

Potential scholarship recipients notify Jefferson Scholars Foundation of their acceptance; alternates are notified as necessary.

  6. May

Final list of the new class of Jefferson Scholars is released. In 2016, 34 Jefferson Scholars were enrolled in the University of Virginia’s Class of 2020.
